The Killer Angels

The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara is a novel, but the voices, and story rings absolutely true. Heartbreaking, I found myself weeping for a battle fought in 1863. The bravery of soldiers facing unbeatable odds, and still charging ahead, knowing death would rush to meet them, was unbearably sad, and beautiful, at the same time. Anyone with an interest in the Civil War should run, not walk to get this book. The shortcomings of certain leaders, the everyday man, fighting for his beliefs, was wrenching. This is one of the best books I have read, fiction, or nonfiction, about the humanity and inhumanity, of men at war.

  2. My husband read this one a few years ago and really liked it. It's one I would like to read eventually. I haven't read much set in the Civil War, but this one sounds like a good place to pick up. Great review!
