What the Dead Know

A week in the high dessert of Moab, Utah and I only got one book read, but it was so beautiful and the weather was wonderful. "What the Dead Know" by Laura Lippman was an excellent way to spend my spare time. On a Spring day in 1975, Sunny and Heather Bethany took a bus to the mall and were never seen again. 30 years later, a disoriented woman leaves the scene of an accident, and when caught, claims to be one of the missing sisters.Told both in the past and in current time, the story weaves such a tangled tale, which may be either an evil con or a tragic reality of kidnapping, and murder. As it unfolds, the reader has no idea which is the truth. Wonderfully written, it held my attention to the shocking conclusion. "What the Dead Know" is a thrilling, sad, and uncompromising look at a family unraveled and heartbroken, and the answer to a 30 year old mystery.
