About Alice

"About Alice" by Calvin Trillin is a very small but beautiful valentine to his wife. Only 96 pages, it is just a lovely piece, written by the renowned writer for The New Yorker, whose family, and especially his wife were the subjects of many of his articles. Known as a humorist, this book is touching and sweet, dealing with her death in 2001 from heart failure following damage to her heart from lung cancer treatment. He shares scenes from their first meeting and snippets from their long marriage, that show how much he loved her. All men should be so loving and devoted. She was an inspired teacher and an advocate for learning, and it is a loss for all of us, but especially for her sweet husband. Read this one with a tissue.

Somebody suggested you should give this book as a wedding gift with a note: This is how it should be done.
