A Rant

This is not about books....just something that has been bothering me for a while. What makes it okay for able bodied people to park in the handicapped zone of ANY parking lot?? 5 times in the past week there have been cars with no placard or handicapped plates parked in the handicapped spots at several businesses....the bookstore, the pharmacy, the grocery store and the doctors office. No one had tickets and I wished I had some to issue. When my husband is driving me in my car with the handicapped plates and I am not leaving the car, we NEVER park in a handicapped zone! It is truly frustrating to drive round and round looking for someplace close to a door that I can hobble to with the fewest steps, going past flashy, shiny, expensive new cars, hogging the handicapped spaces, and seeing no indication that they should be there! Colorado is pretty good about issuing permanent and temporary placards and plates for the handicapped, but they don't seem to do much about enforcing the law in parking lots. Maybe this is because they are not the public roadways, but come on man...give us a break! Some of us poor schmucks need to park close, and if you need to park close even temporarily, get a freaking placard! It will certainly help my blood pressure! Remember Mr. Mercedes SUV....Karma is a bitch! okay...rant over.

Nothing makes this okay. It's an issue I too have a problem with.

I really hate it, too. And I don't even need the handicapped spots.

  4. I think it's an entitlement issue - something we have a real problem with, these days. Even worse, a lot of people just choose to make their own parking spaces. We have a strip mall where people just pull right up in front of the door of whatever business they're going into and park. Nobody tows vehicles that are in the way - they can get away with it. So, they continue to do so. It's sad and disgusting.
