Eat,Pray,Love

Eat,Pray,Love by Elizabeth Gilbert is a book I avoided for a long time. I was afraid it was too sappy, too religious, too I am not sure what, but I vowed not to read it. Then of course, Elizabeth Gilbert hit the Oprah show and did a wonderful interview. I am not a fan of Oprah's book club and I hate buying books with her name slapped on the cover. For some reason it irritates me beyond reason, walking into the bookstore and finding only round stickers on the only copies in stock. It sends me running for Alibris for a non Oprah copy. I was pleasantly surprised watching Elizabeth Gilbert, at how down to earth and non-preachy she was. I figured if I was fast, maybe I could find a non stickered copy, so I rushed out to my local book seller and sure enough, there it was, in the staff pick section.....and no sticker! I came home and set aside everything so I could enjoy this book, and enjoy it I did! From the ending of a terrible relationship, on the edge of falling apart, she decides to take a year and eat in Italy for 4 months, pray in India for 4 months and learn to love herself in Indonesia. I admire her strength, her openness, her ability to adapt, even when she was down, but mostly, I admire her words. A loving look at the beauty and hope, as well as a wonderful travelogue, made this one of the best books I have read in a long time.

    I'm so glad to read your post! I've been avoiding this book for the exact same reasons. Now I have to go buy it and I probably won't get lucky enough to find a copy without the sticker slapped on it.
