Lots of reading...not much writing

Matrimony, a book I won from Bybee over at Naked Without Books, arrived, and it was wonderful. Joshua Henkin managed to capture college life, writing life and real life, all in one book. It was a fairly quick read, but managed to meld all the parts into a terrific whole. Carter and Julian meet in a writing workshop, in college, and become friends. Mia is the girl who falls in love with Julian, and supports him as he works on an endless novel. Over the course of 15 years, they change, grow apart, grow up and grow close as they travel on their journey into being a grown up. It rang very true, and I really liked it.

On a lighter note, Cockatiels at Seven, by Donna Andrews, is part of the Meg Langslow series. A very funny, mystery, finds our Meg watching the toddler from Hell, as she tries to deal with her family, and solve the mystery of what happened to his mother. After not seeing Meg for a couple of years, she asks her to babysit, "just for a little while", and promptly vanishes. One day turns into two and the hunt is on. A very cute, fluffy, series.

  1. "It rang very true and I really liked it" -- good way to describe Matrimony. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did.
