The Tortilla Curtain

"The Tortilla Curtain" by TC Boyle is a book that I really wanted to like. Unfortunately, I felt so depressed as I read it, I had to set it aside. Maybe it is the times we live in, with all the talk of closing our borders, and the backlash against Hispanics coming to America, but I was profoundly disturbed by the story line. After hitting a man with his car, yuppie writer, Delaney Mossbacher gives the man twenty dollars, after all he was just a Mexican. Yikes!! Dogs being eaten by coyotes, and walls going up around a housing development, just made my skin crawl. I know I will get back to it, but for right now, the curtain is down.
