The Love Season

Elin Hilderbrand has written a lovely book, a story of love and loss. Set on Nantucket, it lacks the smell of the Low Country books, but was totally satisfying, all the same. Marguerite is a world class chef, who after running a successful restaurant on Nantucket, abruptly closes her restaurant and retreats into a very small life of solitude and reading. Rumors abound, "she cut her tongue out, she went insane, etc." When her goddaughter comes to the island to celebrate her engagement, she plans on seeing the woman her father has been refusing to allow her to contact. Marguerite is thrilled, and plans a feast, venturing out to the shops she used to haunt, surprising the locals. As she makes the meal, she reminisces about the past, love, tragedy, and loss, which makes up much of the story, but it is as wonderful a tale, as the meal she makes. A thoughtful, sensitive look at the mistakes we make and the consequences of those mistakes. Read this one!
